In an age of digital fixation and the widespread diarising of daily life through smart phones and social media, Marchbank finds themself recalling events best when seeing them in digitised form. In this way, it seems autonomy and independence have become eroded, as the act of remembering is given up to the storage of a phone, a laptop or the cloud. The series contemplates this discomfort, which permeates and clouds moments of otherwise sweet or poignant reminiscence. It is created on paper found whilst the artist lived in Budapest and references Hungarian funerary art from a cemetary local to their neighborhood at the time.  

An interactive modular sculpture which invited the viewers to build their own artwork, using prompts dictated by a monitor and speakers within the installation. The work pokes at the contemporary idea of generative art, creating a slower, community-based alternative. 

Having generated huge amounts of compositions through playful interactive installations, which emphasized collective making, Marchbank created these images, which have been through two very different generative processes. 

A board-game-style precursor of the larger, 2024, version, this portable, playable piece of art formed part of an installation that translated the idea of gallery opening into the format of a games night. It encouraged viewers to 'play' the board game, in the process building their own compositions.

Marchbank's practice includes creating digital video pieces, like Out There, a series which manipulated locations captured digitally through photogrammetry. These are morphed into unrealistic dreamscapes, which conjure surreality from the mundane. Such work can be displayed in non-traditional art spaces, and has been used as a backdrop for a club night.
